I have to force myself to write this text, because the film definitely left a stench of disgust in the corners of my brain. Getting ready to watch the new WW, I expected what I usually expect from superhero movies – casual entertainment, washed out of more complex thoughts. Unfortunately, the creators did not even cope with such a simple task. The film turned out to be so terribly boring and stupid that it seems almost unreal that something like this could have been created in our time.
In the 2017 movie, Diana Prince was still quite an interesting heroine. She had her own motivation and traits that set her apart from the rest of people – a kind of innocence and naivety. Thanks to this, it was possible to show over the course of the film how the heroine changes and matures. WW ’84 shits on this thread completely. It is unclear what Diana has been doing since the war, and when her lover is magically brought back to life, Diana loses her head completely. And despite her supposedly ingrained sense of righteousness, she completely disregards the fact that her boyfriend has taken over the body of another living human.
Dr. Barbara Minerva – WW’s main opponent is the archetype of a boring librarian, and she brings nothing new or interesting to the film, apart from two poor fight scenes. Max Lord, also a WW opponent, is as boring as Barbara. On the other hand, the concept of a wish-fulfilling power is another duplicated pattern of the same fairy tale and brings nothing interesting, new or interesting to the viewer’s life.
Steve is brought back to life as a puppet. His character participates in the events as Diana’s padawan and has no influence whatsoever on what happens or how, including the final outcome of the confrontation. Overall it’s fair to say the movie is a waste of an excellent cast. The acting cannot be faulted. For example, Pedro Pascal does what he can with Maxwell Lord, but unfortunately, as the polish saying goes, “You can’t twist a whip from shit.”
The special effects are faultless except that they clumsily try to hide the extreme stupidity of every scene in the film. The script of the film seems to be written by a five-year-old in the restroom during the school break between lessons. For example:
- Scene in which Diana finally manages to reach Max Lord, but is unable to stop him – because – he pushes her away with the “wind“. Wonder Woman is able to take a head hit from Superman, but the “wind” makes her unable to step forward. Never mind that it is not known what the wind is, where it comes from and why it does not tear the bunker into small pieces, despite the fact that it is holding WW in the place.
- Another idiocy is that Max Lord speaks to people all over the world. There is no way in the 1980s that there was a system that would allow something like this.
- The president of the United States who, when asked about the heart’s greatest desire, replies “More nuclear warheads.”. Yeah, right…
- Max Lord and Diana speaking to the whole world in English and the fact that the whole world understands them. It would be nice if all people knew one universal language, English or not..
- Diana and her newly acquired powers, which she apparently forgot later (“Justice League”). Such as flying or invisibility.
I could really go on endlessly, because the movie is really stupid. But as much as I regretted the time spent watching it, now I regret taking the time spent to write a review. Dear reader, I advise you not to watch this crap, even if only out of curiosity.
