The Matrix Resurrections, or the necromancy lesson – A Short Review

Whoever has watched the new Matrix knows how bad this movie is. The only reason the internet troll army has not launched its full arsenal of hatred against creators is because of Keanu. If I had to guess, I would say that the reviews are a bit better than expected because nobody wants to upset him. Unfortunately Keanu or not – the movie was just plain boring. And long before the production, everyone knew that succeeding was not possible. And the financial results only confirmed this.

The general approach is that the movie shouldn’t be made at all. The universe is really interesting and could be used to create a new fascinating story. But because someone wanted to rehash the old stuff and get the money – believing famous faces would sell a hopeless plot – and voila, well we got the Matrix Disappointment. And seriously, it’s been a long time since I had seen such a pathetic attempt at necromancy performed on an old corpse.

The plot was so boring and uninteresting that I don’t even want to summarize it. In one sentence, you can say that the movie was an exact rerun of the first Matrix part with older actors or swapped actors. Neo is back in the Matrix, once again triggered by the pseudo-Morpheus, wakes up in the pod again, and is scooped up by a hovercraft – again. Only this time, instead of saving humanity, he must save his beloved Trinity, who is still imprisoned in the Matrix. At the side of her fake husband named Chad (XD).

The movie brings nothing original to the future of the Matrix world. A pity, because it would have some potential. For example, the idea that some machines live in symbiosis with people, helping them rebuild the environment. This idea had some interesting potential. It could be the beginning of more interesting changes and development of the history of the world, which was already quite well described. Unfortunately, it was used only as a curiosity in the background of a completely imitative plot.

There is nothing to wonder about. None of the creators contributed anything to this film. Nobody thought it over and made it out of passion. It’s just another product that greedy corporations wanted to sell. No wonder Keanu gave so much money to his co-workers after production ended. I would also feel that this is money earned too easily.

In other words, complete boredom. I’m a month after watching the movie and I don’t even remember who the new characters were or what they were doing in the movie. All I remember is some weird blue hair that made the same impression on me as Russian wedding photography. Overall a waste of time and lack of respect for the universe beloved by so many people. I definitely do not recommend it, and rate it 3/10.
