“Free Guy” made its debut in Polish cinemas yesterday and we decided to go to the film hoping for a quick and enjoyable entertainment. And how pleasantly surprised we were! Let’s be honest … we are now in the dark age of cinema, in which films are either a reheated chop of ground superheroes, a sequel or something even worse. Also, as a rule, when we go to the cinema, we expect to be deceived and disgusted with what we see. Surprisingly “Free Guy” delivered exactly what was promised in the trailer. The movie was not too long, not too short, and really funny. And the trailer certainly reflected the atmosphere of the film. So no one deceived us – what a miracle!
It is well known that good comedy films are being produced more and more rarely. And once they are produced, humor is in most cases misplaced, repetitive or boring. Free Guy doesn’t have that problem. First of all, Ryan Reynolds is a great comedy actor who plays the main character lightly and effortlessly. Secondly, the movie doesn’t try to pretend it’s about anything other than having a good time. The fact that the scriptwriter does not try to push politics and the intrusive fixing of the world into its content is a real miracle in these days.
For us, the movie was even funnier than for most of the cinema audience couse we managed to catch a few flavors that will make every gamer laugh. But that doesn’t mean the movie is only for gamers – on the contrary, the movie will be perfect for any average person who doesn’t play games. However, game players will certainly have the best fun on it.
Interestingly, “Free Guy” – being a comedy movie, is not stupid at all. It has no glaring holes in the script or the nonsensical choices made by the heroes. I don’t know if it’s an accident or on purpose, but the movie parodies the game industry quite well – driven by greedy managerial bastards (khe khe Blizza .. khe khe), people working in it, gamers and streamers. It’s also an interesting thing with streamers. Certainly, the biggest surprise for me was to see Jacksepticeye, Ninja, Pokimane and others on the screen – playing parodies of themselves in the film.
The movie features also romantic storyline that does not disturb, does not derogate and, as befits a comedy, it was treated with lightness and a smile. The characters were interesting, clear and funny, and the very concept of the film was a hit. The film tells an interesting story of an NPC (non playable character) – from online game. The topic is actually quite trendy because the base of people playing games is growing every year. And the idea is original, new and interesting. Certainly more interesting than another Marvel movie made according to the same scheme as the other 50 Marvel movies.
In other words, we highly recommend and encourage you to financialy support this interesting production by going to the cinema. And if you play Fortnite, the producers have just added a new and interesting skin 😉
